MUSICAL ROUTE ON BYZANTINE TRACE FROM BYZANTINE CRETE TO TODAY & TO MIKI THEODORAKI HERODIO OCTOBER 13, 2021VASILIS SKOULAS, MILTOS PASCHALIDIS, MARIA TZOMPANAKITATIANA PAPAGEORGIOU piano, music editing Participants:

THE GROUP OF VRAKOFORS OF CRETE A musical journey starting from the primitive, Byzantine music of Crete and its recording today will take place on October 13 at the Herodeion. Beginning with the Rizitiko song, a monument of Cretan music that has its roots in the Byzantine years, in Lefka ‘Ori and Psiloritis, the concert presents a masterpiece mosaic of sounds – songs and dances – that will unite the time and sources of Greek music with the present of Greek music. The concert will travel us through the music of contemporary composers focusing on the magnificent work of Mikis Theodorakis, inspired by the Byzantine musical tradition and the musical and intellectual heritage of Crete. The connection of Byzantine music with the traditional music of Crete is historically documented, since the mainland was under Byzantine rule for many centuries during the Middle Ages. In addition, it was an important center of Christianity and the cultivation of Byzantine chanting, which fueled traditional music, especially radical song. The inspiration and planning of the concert is the pianist and musicologist Tatiana Papageorgiou, a close collaborator of Mikis Theodorakis, known for his dedication to his work for 25 years, the man who together with George Agorastakis and Eratosthenes Kapsomenos sign the book that was released before a few days entitled “Crete & Mikis Theodorakis” by the University Publications of Crete and the Municipality of Chania. The evening will be sealed by the emblematic singer Vassilis Skoulas, a special figure and a top musical figure, a symbol of the Cretans everywhere. Vassilis Skoulas from Anogia, Crete, an authentic size like the rock of Psiloritis, modest and popular, will unite the thread from the historical Rizitiko song to the music of Mikis Theodorakis. singer and songwriter Miltos Paschalidis who is experientially and artistically connected with Crete and has sung works of the great composer in his presence.
